FLAIRlive
The FLAIRlive research project is part of the Kopernikus project ENSURE (ENSURE - NEW ENERGY NETWORK STRUCTURES FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION).
To support the accelerated connection of renewable generation plants and controllable consumers, the previous FLAIR² research project developed a concept for the decentralised and autonomous determination of schedules for controlling controllable consumption devices in private households in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). The FLAIR concept provides for autonomous operation in normal cases, but can also be controlled by the grid operator via the intelligent metering system (IMSYS), as currently envisaged by the regulation. This solution is therefore future-proof, with and without IMSYS. Based on these findings, the potential of exclusively decentralised control without communication will be determined in FLAIRlive. It will also be investigated to which other applications the control system is transferable and effective. Factors such as the stiffness of the grid (technically represented by the short-circuit power) and grid structure, line lengths, connected consumers and feed-in systems play a key role here. In the future, grid operators will therefore have to decide which area is to be prioritised.
The control system will also only have a significant effect on the grid status from a certain penetration level. The FLAIRlive module is intended to create the scientific basis for grid operators' decisions regarding a suitable roll-out strategy, regardless of current national contractual restrictions. With autonomous operation, the control system adapts flexibly and dynamically to the respective grid situation, and FLAIRlive could therefore contribute to resilience in the low-voltage grid. In addition, in the event of a communication failure (e.g. during grid restoration), limited control of the loads could also be carried out indirectly via the grid voltage. This benefit in special operating situations is also to be investigated in the FLAIRlive module.
