Innovative system technology is crucial for the efficient use of geothermal energy and the implementation of the energy transition. The sub-project “Plant technology and flexible operation” focuses on developments in the areas of feed pumps, large heat pumps, reversible ORC systems and cooling supply. The aim is to adapt these technologies to the geological conditions in Bavaria and implement them in practice in collaboration with plant manufacturers and operators. Specifically, measures such as temperature monitoring of submersible centrifugal pumps to prevent failures and the testing of new types of refrigerants and hybrid absorption chillers are being investigated. Reversible ORC systems should also significantly increase the flexibility of geothermal heating plants.
